WASHINGTON, D.C. --
Washington Valor head coach Dean Cokinos announced that
the team made roster transactions last week. The Valor will kick-off their
inaugural season, presented by MedStar, on April 7 at Verizon Center.
WR Mike Washington, a seven-year Arena Football League
(AFL) veteran was assigned to the Valor. He has played for the Pittsburgh
Power, Arizona Rattlers and Tampa Bay Storm. He has career totals of 560
receptions for 6,908 yards and 141 touchdowns.
"Mike has had an outstanding career in the AFL, he is a very explosive
receiver and kick returner who can impact a game at any point," said
Cokinos. "We are very excited to have Mike join our organization. He is a
first class individual who will represent the Valor well."
OL DJ Brandel is entering his second year in the AFL. He
spent his rookie season with the Cleveland Gladiators. Brandel attended
Chapman College where he was a First Team All-Conference and Offensive
Lineman of the Year during his junior and senior years.
Second year player OL Jarien Moreland has been assigned to
the Valor after spending the 2016 season with the Portland Steel. He is
joined by rookie OL Kamalie Matthews of Murray State
University and rookie OL Derrick Okafor of Southern
Cokinos added, "With Brandel, Matthews, Moreland and Okaror we get a good
blend of veteran and rookie big men which is essential to our growth as a
team up front. All four are versatile and talented players that will
strengthen our overall roster."
