CHICAGO – The Pittsburgh Power have been assigned rookie quarterback Jordan Jefferson.
Jefferson (6-5, 225, LSU) finished his college career with 4,733 passing yards and 34 touchdowns. He holds the LSU school record for rushing yards by a quarterback with 1,018 for his career and ranks fifth in school history in passing touchdowns (34), rushing touchdowns (12) and wins as a starter (24).
In 2011, Jefferson guided the Tigers to an undefeated regular season before losing to Alabama in the BCS national championship game. The Louisiana native signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League in August 2012 after a brief stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League.
Jefferson will compete with two-year veteran Steven Sheffield and fellow rookie Shane Austin for the starting job with the Power in 2013.
