NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans VooDoo have been assigned wide receiver Akia Williams, the team announced today.
Williams (6-1, 200, Louisiana College) became the second player from Louisiana College to sign with an NFL team after joining the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012.
"Darnell comes from a small college in our backyard and he spent some time in the NFL," VooDoo Head Coach Pat O’Hara said. "We are looking forward to seeing him in training camp."
Williams played two seasons at Louisiana College after transferring from Trinity Valley Community College. During his time at Louisiana, Williams racked up 3,720 all-purpose yards and scored 28 touchdowns. He caught 119 passes for 2,271 yards (19.1 yards-per-catch average) and 25 touchdowns. He also returned 25 kicks for 856 yards (34.2 yards-per-return average). Williams was a First-Team All-Conference selection both seasons.
