DES MOINES – The Iowa Barnstormers made another huge move on the defensive side of the ball on Monday afternoon as Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Mike Hohensee announced that All-Arena DB Jason Simpson has been assigned to Iowa for two more seasons.
Simpson (6-1, 205, Missouri) appeared in all 18 games for the Barnstormers in 2012, collecting 106 tackles and a franchise record 10 interceptions. A fan-favorite for his hard-hitting play, Simpson quickly became the leader of the Barnstormers defense. He split time between defensive back and Jack linebacker, while also serving as Iowa’s primary kick returner, setting the franchise record with 1,711 return yards.
A six-year veteran of Arena Football, Simpson previously played three seasons for the Barnstormers from 2008-2010 before joining the Chicago Rush in 2011. He also spent time in af2 with the Arkansas Twisters (2007).
“It’s great to have the cornerstone of our secondary back in the fold for two more seasons”, stated Hohensee. “Jason might not be the biggest or fastest DB in the League, but he’s just a great football player, with amazing field-awareness who is always around the football. He is one of the best football players I have ever coached”.
The Woodlands, TX native was an all-star in both football and track at Woodlands High School. Simpson then went on to star at the University of Missouri where he served as a team captain and was named Second-Team All Big-XII in 2004.
