NEW ORLEANS – The Arena Football League assigned LB/DL Brian Coulter and Andre Mathis to the New Orleans VooDoo, announced the VooDoo front office on Wednesday morning.
“Both of these young men have potential and will compete in training camp for a spot on the 2012 roster,” said Head Coach Pat O’Hara. “The coaching staff and I are high on Brian and Andre, and think that they can both help the team.”
Coulter (6’3” 260 lbs. Missouri) is a native of Baker and lettered two seasons for the Missouri Tigers in 2008-09. His best season came as a senior when he finished with 48 total tackles (28 solo), 5 for a loss and 2 sacks.
For his career two-year career at Missouri, Coulter played in 25 games and finished with 73 total tackles (32 solo), 13 for a loss, 6 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries. Coulter started his collegiate career at Pearl River Community College.
Mathis (6’2” 270 lbs. Tennessee) was a three-year letterman at Tennessee, finishing up his collegiate career in 2009. At Tennessee, Mathis redshirted his freshman season, then played the next four season primarily as a backup to the defensive line.
