I covered the entire 2011 Arena Football League season and there were certainly a variety of big storylines. There was the fall from prominence of the defending champion Spokane Shock. There was the 13 game winning streak of the Jacksonville Sharks. There were a variety of players on record setting paces both offensively and defensively. None of these are the preeminent story from this past year though. Even the league inducting a new Hall of Fame class doesn’t top the list.
There’s little doubt that the biggest story of the 24th AFL season was QB Aaron Garcia and his quest for his very first ArenaBowl Championship. Along the way, he became the first quarterback to ever throw 1,000 career TD passes and oh by the way, he got the title he had been longing for as well. Out of all the headlines made league wide in 2011 Garcia’s quest for a ring combined with his stellar play at over 40 years old was worthy of front page news week in and week out.
Here’s a look at two moments that defined the season for Garcia. One is him making history and the other is him closing the show on the final play of ArenaBowl XXIV. Enjoy…
