SaberCats Add Former Bucs DB Anderson

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats today announced the addition of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back Brandon Anderson. The former Akron Zip rejoins former college teammate and recently acquired defensive back Andre Jones in San Jose.

"Brandon is an experienced, young player and is someone we are very excited about bringing to San Jose," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "He adds quality depth to the secondary and we are expecting big things from our defensive backs this season."

Anderson (5-11, 185, Akron) most recently spent time with the Buccaneers in the National Football League from 2009-10 as a member of their active roster for three games in 2009, as well as a member of their practice squad. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2009 by the Indianapolis Colts, and split time during the preseason with the Colts and Cleveland Browns before signing with Tampa Bay.

A key contributor at Akron, Anderson spent time at both cornerback and safety over his four seasons with the Zips. He appeared in 48 games, recorded a career total of 108 tackles, grabbed three interceptions, forced one fumble, had 17 pass break-ups and registered one sack.

A native of Dublin, Va., he prepped at Hargrave Military Academy (Chatham, Va.) in 2004 after transferring from Pulaski High School. Anderson was a three-year starter at defensive back and two-year starter at running back for Pulaski, earning first-team all-district honors at both running back and defensive back in his junior and senior seasons. He also earned all-region honors as a senior at defensive back, running back and kick returner.
