SaberCats Add All-Arena DB Andre Jones

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats today announced the addition of 2011 All-Arena selection DB Andre Jones.

"Andre was an outstanding playmaker for the Milwaukee Mustangs and our Defensive Coordinator, Cedric Walker last season," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "With the other additions we've made in the secondary we are expecting big things from our defense in 2012."

Jones (5-11, 195, Akron) led the Mustangs and finished fifth in the AFL with ten interceptions, returning two for touchdowns in his rookie campaign. On the season, he finished with 60.5 tackles, 16 passes defensed, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. For his efforts he was named second-team All-Arena and he will be joining former Mustang defensive backs Brandon Brinkley and Marcus Everett in San Jose. Jones also earned Defensive Player of the Week honors in Week 8 in Milwaukee’s 50-33 win over the Tampa Bay Storm. He recorded six unassisted tackles, forced a fumble and had one interception in the Mustangs victory.

A four-year starter at Akron, Jones spent his first two seasons at safety where he racked up 184 tackles, four interceptions, ten passes defensed, six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one sack in 24 games (22 starts). He later made the switch to wide receiver his final two years for the Zips, starting in 19 of 23 games and totaling 80 catches for 1,231 yards and 11 touchdowns, earning All-Mid-American Conference honors as a senior.

A native of Forestville, Md., he prepped at Avon Old Farms School (Avon, Conn.) in 2004 where he was named first team All-New England and first team All-Erickson League at both running back and defensive back after transferring from Forestville High School. He was a consensus All-State selection in 2003 after posting six interceptions and 70 tackles, as well as 1,215 yards rushing, 538 yards passing and 560 yards receiving. Jones was also named first team all-metro and first-team all-county.
