FANswers with Shock Receiver Charles Frederick

For our latest installment of FANswers, we chatted with Spokane Shock WR Charles Frederick! Fans were asked to post questions to the League’s Official Facebook page and Frederick answered select questions.

Frederick – nicknamed “ET” – was selected as the 2007 Arena Football League Rookie of the Year as a member of the Kansas City Brigade and will line up at receiver for the Spokane Shock in 2012.

Josh Bratovich: How is the shoulder? I wish I had the chance to see you suit up for the Sharks in 2010.

Charles Frederick:  My shoulder is great.  I have been working on getting healthy and in shape. My shoulder and my body getting are ready for Spokane!

Adam Purdy:  What factors led you to decide to come "home" to Spokane?

CF:  I got a call from Reggie Williams first and asked if I would like to play football in Spokane.  Next thing I know, the owner is calling me asking if I would like to come back to Spokane and I said yes.

Tyson Sutton from Wichita, Kansas:  What is your favorite memory of your breakout season with the Brigade in 2007? What was the biggest difference between the af2 and the AFL?

CF:  It’s hard to say which game was my breakout game, but if I had to choose a game it would be against Dallas (nine catches, 136 yards and two touchdowns). Game-wise, there were no real big differences between the af2 and AFL.

Tyler Derby from Kendallville, Indiana:  How would you describe your playing time with All-Arena QB Raymond Philyaw in KC?

CF: I learned how to think and see everything through a quarterbacks eye.

Mike Mundell from Spokane, Washington: What is your favorite part of being in Spokane?

CF:  I love the fans and the overall support from the City of Spokane.

Cody Lee Bryant:  I'm from the KC area....did you enjoy your time in Kansas City and what was it like playing with Raymond Philyaw, Anthony Hines, Jerel Myers and Boo Williams?

CF:  That group of guys is like playing with brothers. We were all on the same page and always stuck together.  If an issue came about we always talked and worked it out.

Rob Mager Indianapolis, Indiana:  ET, how do you plan on leading these young guys and teaching them the game of Arena Football? I know you can play, but how will you lead? PS - Good luck, man - hope you crush this year!

CF:  I like to lead by example. I like to stay positive and have others follow my actions.

Tyler Derby from Kendallville, Indiana:  After all these years, what motivates you to keep playing and is there a story behind the long hair you sport? (I was always a fan of the "Fred Heads" in KC)

CF:  I have love and passion for the game. I can still play the game and my heart is what drives me. As for my hair, I started growing it out when I was 12. Then I headed to a private school where I had to cut all my hair off. Once I started college I decided to grow it back out.

Nadia Bedricky from Chicago, Illinois: Where did you get the name “ET”?

CF:  When I was two my favorite movie was ET and watched it every day. I only wanted things with ET.
