SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Blaze are just one day away from kicking off their sixth season in the Arena Football League. The team will open 2012 training camp on Saturday, February 18th at the University of Utah indoor practice facility. Utah is preparing for a season it is confident will culminate in an ArenaBowl Championship.
"We’ve been looking forward to the opening of training camp for quite some time,” said President & Head Coach Ron James. “The team we have put together has the makings of a top-flight football club and we are eager to see their progress. This should be one of the most competitive training camps in the history of the Utah Blaze. Our mission is clear: Prepare this group for a successful trip to San Antonio in the AFL season opener. We’ll go from there."
Utah will take the field for training camp exactly three weeks before its season-opener against the San Antonio Talons on Saturday, March 10th. The first three days of practice will be non-padded, as the team will be in full gear for the first time on Tuesday, February 21st. The Blaze will hold practice at Spencer Eccles Field House, located at 650 South Guardsman Way in Salt Lake City. As always, practices are open to the public and the team invites all fans to come watch.
The Blaze will also hold an intersquad scrimmage that will be open to the public on Tuesday, February 28th at EnergySolutions Arena. Further details are soon to come. The Blaze have a total of 35 players under contract that will compete for 24 spots on the opening day roster. Final rosters are due by 4:00 p.m. MST on Saturday, March 3.
