Barnstormers Training Camp Headed to Oskaloosa

DES MOINES, IA. – Iowa Barnstormers Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Mike Hohensee unveiled detailed plans today regarding the team’s 2012 training camp.    For the first time in franchise history, the Barnstormers will be taking their entire camp outside of Des Moines.  All team practices will be held on the campus of William Penn University at the Penn Activities Center.  Training Camp officially opens this Sunday, February 19 when 35 players from around the country will attempt to land a spot on the Barnstormers 2012 roster.

In addition to practices, the Barnstormers will be involved in many community events throughout the Oskaloosa area ranging from meet and greet dinners to visits at local schools and hospitals.  The first major community event will also take place on Sunday February 19th when the Oskaloosa Chamber of Commerce will hold a kickoff party at the Penn Central Mall.  The event will be held in the Center Courtyard  area  and  begins at 4:30pm and is open to the public.  Barnstormers players, coaches and members of the dance team will be on hand to meet and greet fans and sign autographs.

Upon completion of the 2011 season, the Barnstormers organization made a major commitment to upgrading their football operations, beginning with the hiring of Hohensee.  “We felt that it was very important to create an atmosphere where our player s could bond quickly as a team.  Taking our camp on the road to Oskaloosa will allow us to accomplish just that.  The facilities at William Penn are top notch and the community support has been outstanding.  Now it’s time for us to go to work.”

Practices will take place daily and are open to the general public and all media.  A complete schedule of practices and community events is listed below.  A full training camp roster will be released later this week, prior to the first team practice on Sunday.
