June 26, 1987 - Tomorrow I'm going to see a game for this new sport called “Arena Football.” I'm really not sure what it is other than it's an indoor 50-yard field with nets. …Nets? For the last couple of weeks, I've been scouring the newspaper for anything related to the game. There are walls too. Like hockey. I'm beyond curious. The general admission tickets are for $10 so what do I have to lose? I'm going by myself, but I don't care. I have got to see what this is about. Our team is the Washington Commandos. The name works for me. I hope it's a team I can get behind.
June 27, 1987 - When I walked into the arena, I saw the nets! I saw them but I still could not understand how this was going to work. My mind was reeling over those and the short field and the walls and ... I just don't know what to expect and I can tell no one else knows either but there are a pretty good number of curious, like-minded people here with me. And then it began. It was fast! It was furious! It was football, alright. Hard-hitting and tackling but the speed is just blindingly fast. It was actually a little dizzying at how fast everything happened. At how fast... it's over! That's when I knew. I knew I was hooked. This game freaking rocked! I came back for all the other home games that summer. There's only one problem. I'm moving away from D.C. at the end of the summer.
January 2003 - The other Friday night I was working late and was locking up the office when this guy hops off the elevator looking around. I knew he didn't work here so I asked him if I could help him. He jammed an envelope into my hand and said it was for anyone at the company. Then he hopped back onto the elevator and was gone. There was no name on the envelope, so I opened it. There were two front row tickets on the glass for the Atlanta Thrashers. I called my wife and told her we're going to the game tonight. It was a great time and I knew we needed to get front row season tickets to one of the Atlanta teams. The next day I started my search. Braves, Thrashers, Falcons, Hawks – all were far too expensive for our very humble means. That's when I noticed a silver helmet in the arena's website and clicked on it. It took me to a site for a football team. A football team in the Arena Football League. Now where had I heard of that? Could this be the same league I saw about 15 years ago? I clicked on the link to the league site and knew it was! My heart skipped a beat and I instantly got more excited! I went to the Georgia Force's home page to find ticket prices. I was hoping against hope that the prices were something we could afford. I sent a quick prayer up and went straight to the front row. Well, not exactly front row… those corner front row seats that were about 10 feet up? Yes! We can swing those and that's perfect!
February 15, 2003 - Tomorrow I'm going to the first game for my new favorite team, the Georgia Force in this awesome sport called Arena Football!!!
December 20, 2011 - We've been front row season ticket holders for the Georgia Force every season since 2003. I'm as excited for the 2012 season as ever before because the Georgia Force are going to win the Arena Bowl!
