In a special holiday edition of AFL Round Table, AFL Communications sat down with coaches to talk about their favorite holiday memories, presents and their wishes to Arena Football Nation.
EDITOR: Guys, thanks for joining us today and Happy Holidays. First off, what is your most memorable holiday experience?
CHICAGO RUSH HEAD COACH BOB MCMILLEN: In my early years with the AFL, I was with the Arizona Rattlers. Coming home during the Holidays to see my wife and son was my favorite time.
SAN ANTONIO TALONS HEAD COACH LEE JOHNSON: When I was around six years old I remember my first Christmas. Around the tree there were two blue motorized scooters and I thought they were the best thing since sliced bread!
ARIZONA RATTLERS HEAD COACH KEVIN GUY: My favorite memory is watching my kids open gifts and seeing them wide-eyed and excited.
CLEVELAND GLADIATORS HEAD COACH STEVE THONN: My favorite holiday memory is eating Swedish meatballs made by my mother.
ED: Swedish meatballs sound interesting. Next question, what was your favorite gift?
BM: Lets see… My favorite gift is a 60-inch HD Sony Bravio TV from my wife. I’m a TV guy and loved that gift.
LJ: I can’t really say specifically one gift. As I get older I reflect more and the gift to have my family around during holidays is what’s best.
KG: When I was five years old I got walkie-talkies. My brother and I would talk to each at both ends of the house. Later that day we went to relatives for dinner and when we came back all our gifts were taken. Someone had broken into our house and took all of our Christmas gifts.
ED: Wow. That’s not right, surely memorable though.
ST: It is. I would say my favorite gift was a red, white and blue ABA basketball.
ED: Must have been fun playing with one of those. Distracting! Let’s move on to holiday plans. We’ll go around one last time. Coach McMillen, what are you doing for the holidays?
BM: My plans for this holiday will be lots of traveling to see relatives on both sides of the family.
LJ: I will be spending time with my family because once the AFL season starts I am very busy with film and coaching. I want to get in as much family time in now as I can.
KG: I will be with family for the Holiday then we are off to Miami and the Keys for the New Years.
ST: Both sides of our family are very close and will be visiting both sides of the family.
ED: Sounds great! Guys, thanks for sitting down with us today. Happy Holidays!
