Tampa Bay's James Named Marcum-Moss Head Coach of the Year

August 25, 2017
James wins top coaching honor for second time

LAS VEGAS  – The Arena Football League has announced that Tampa Bay Storm head coach Ron James has been named 2017 Marcum-Moss Head Coach of the Year. This is James' second time being honored as the top coach in the AFL after being awarded the distinction in 2012 with the Utah Blaze.

James is in his first season coaching the Storm. Under his direction, Tampa Bay improved from 2-14 in 2016 to 10-4 in 2017. In guiding the Storm to ArenaBowl XXX, James has generated one of the greatest single-season turnarounds in AFL history. No team had ever gone from a winning percentage of less than .200 in one season to the ArenaBowl in the next season before this year.

James is the eighth man to win the Marcum-Moss Head Coach of the Year award twice, joining Perry Moss, Tim Marcum, John Gregory, Darren Arbet, Doug Plank, Kevin Guy, and the man who will be on the opposite sideline at ArenaBowl XXX, Clint Dolezel.
