Soul Hosts Military Appreciation Night

May 17, 2017
PHILADELPHIA- The Philadelphia Soul (5-0) will be hosting Military Appreciation Night, presented by Sabre Systems this Saturday, May 20 as the team takes on the Cleveland Gladiators (1-4). The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network and 97.5 The Fanatic. Kick-Off is set for 7:00 p.m.

Complimentary tickets are available for Active Duty, Reserve and National Guard members and their families. There are complimentary tickets available for all veterans. Tickets that are purchased at philadelphiasoul.com/military will include a donation to the Travis Manion Foundation. Complimentary tickets are made possible by the support of our military sponsors including Sabre Systems, Parts Life, Inc., DSA, Pepper Hamilton, LLP., Herr’s, Optima Global Solutions, Republic Services, Holman Enterprises and Bloomsburg University’s Zeigler College of Business.

“The entire night will be designed to honor the brave men and women who are serving or have served our country,” said Soul President John Adams. “It is important to show these heroes that we support them and that their sacrifices do not go unnoticed.”

The night’s presentation includes the Travis Manion Foundation presenting one of its Ambassadors, Joey Fay, with its prestigious TMF Spartan Award. The TMF Spartan award is presented to volunteer Ambassadors in its network who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the "If Not Me Then Who..." motto. Joey Fay is one of its original Ambassadors. He played football at the Naval Academy with Travis, and served as a Marine Corps officer at the same time as Travis. He transitioned out of the Marine Corps and moved back to Pennsylvania where he earned his MBA and continued to serve TMF as an Ambassador.

This past year, Joey has been highly involved building out TMF programs in the Lehigh Valley and supporting its partnership team. He created a mentoring program for a new demographic of students that had previously not been reached, and executed it with great success. Joey is an excellent example of a TMF Spartan, and the Travis Manion Foundation is proud to highlight a veteran of such impressive character and dedication.

Mr. Fay will be presented with this award by Ryan Manion, President of the Travis Manion Foundation and Travis’ sister, and Philip P. Jaurigue, co-Owner of the Philadelphia Soul and Chairman/CEO of Sabre Systems, Inc.”

Additionally, the Soul team will be wearing a custom-designed military-inspired patriotic jerseys which will be auctioned off while the game is being played and presented after the game. The proceeds from the auction as well as the game’s 50/50 raffle proceeds will benefit the Travis Manion Foundation.

To purchase tickets for Saturday, visit www.philadelphiasoul.com/military. Because of generous donations from organizations that support our military, many active military and veterans will be provided with complimentary tickets to the game.

About Travis Manion Foundation

Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) empowers veterans and families of fallen heroes to develop character in future generations. In 2007, 1stLt Travis Manion (USMC) was killed in Iraq while saving his wounded teammates. Today, Travis' legacy lives on in the words he spoke before leaving for his final deployment, "If Not Me, Then Who..."

Guided by this mantra, veterans continue their service, develop strong relationships with their communities, and thrive in their post-military lives. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation.

The story of 1st Lt. Travis Manion and his Naval Academy brother Lt. (SEAL) Brendan Looney have been publicized in the book Brothers Forever, and additional information about the Foundation can be found at www.travismanion.org.
