Defensive Lineman of the Year Returns

March 14, 2017
PHILADELPHIA – The 2016 ArenaBowl Champion Philadelphia Soul today announced that DL Jake Metz (6’6, 265, Shippensburg) has returned to the 2017 roster. This will be Metz’s third season with the Soul and third with the AFL. “Jake is a defensive end that puts fear into every quarterback we face,” said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel. “With his size and skillset, he will continue to be an All-Arena player and help bring another ArenaBowl victory to his home city of Philadelphia.” In just two seasons with the Soul, Metz tallied 37.0 total tackles, three pass break-ups, two forced fumbles and a quarterback hurry. He led the league in sacks for the 2016 season with 8.0 and was awarded Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Arena honors for his performance. Metz was one of four Soul players in the 2016 season to be invited to workout with an NFL team. Shortly after the team’s ArenaBowl victory, the Pennsylvania native traded his Soul jersey for a green one as he tried out for a spot on the Philadelphia Eagles roster. Metz was signed by the Eagles and played in the final preseason game of the 2016 season. “It was an amazing experience, being a hometown guy, winning a world championship and then getting a shot to play for the Eagles,” said Metz. “Being able to represent my city was an experience I will never forget. I am excited to help the Soul win another championship and hopefully get another shot in the NFL.” ABOUT Philadelphia Soul The 2016 World Champion Philadelphia Soul are entering their 12th season in the Arena Football League.
