Gladiators WR Otis Amey had 208 receiving yards and six touchdowns against the Los Angeles Avengers

LOS ANGELES – The Cleveland Gladiators offense was hitting on all cylinders, as they snapped their three-game losing streak with an 83-69 win over the Los Angeles Avengers at STAPLES Center Saturday night.  Cleveland improves to 4-3 while the Avengers fall to 3-5. 

Raymond Philyaw found Otis Amey in the end zone with 19 seconds left in the game, giving the Gladiators a 14 point lead and sealing the win.  The score was Amey’s sixth receiving touchdown and Philyaw’s ninth on the night.   Amey tied his career-best with 15 catches for a game, season and career-high 208 yards in the win.

 

Raymond Philyaw finished 30-of-39 for 411 yards and nine touchdowns.  His 411 yards passing tied his career-best and marked the fourth time in his career he has thrown for over 400 yards.  It was also the first time in 2008 he cracked the 400-yard mark. 

 

Not to be outdone, Marlion Jackson scored a career-best five touchdowns, including a career-high three rushing.  He added two receiving scores on passes of 26 and 39 yards, respectively.

 

Tom Hicks finished 31-of-45 and 378 yards for the Avengers, who have now lost five of their last six games.  Hicks found J.R. Tolver for a team-best 11 catches, 120 yards and four touchdowns in the loss.

 

The Gladiators posted 41 points in the first half and 42 in the second half.  The 83 points is the most in franchise history.

 

The Gladiators now travel to Long Island, New York for a Week 9 matchup with Eastern Division rival New York Dragons (4-4) on Saturday, April 26.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. and can be heard on ESPN 850 WKNR and seen live on FSN Ohio.
