IRVING, TEXAS - The Dallas Desperados (6-0) continued their winning ways with a 58-51 win over Eastern Division rival Cleveland Gladiators (3-2) and made history along the way as Desperados Head Coach Will McClay earned the 50th win in his career and guided his team to their 14th consecutive victory - tying for the second-longest win streak in league history. Linebacker Bobby Perry and wide receiver/defensive back Will Pettis rounded out the rest of the game awards with Defensive Player of the Game and Ironman of the Game honors, respectively.
Each team was held to a touchdown a piece in the first quarter as Bobby Perry got the Desperados on the scoreboard first when he intercepted a Raymond Philyaw pass and returned it 33 yards for his first career interception return for a touchdown on Cleveland's first offensive drive of the game and Cleveland retaliated with a one-yard rush by Marlion Jackson to tie things up at 7-7. Dallas began to pull away late in the third quarter, 41-27, after linebacker David Dixon had a net recovery in the endzone for a touchdown, but Cleveland refused to back down as they countered with a Philyaw-to-Otis Amey touchdown connection to bring the score back within seven, 41-34. The two teams traded scores again, but the Desperados continued their offensive production behind two more Dolezel touchdown passes to Nash and a late field goal to provide a 58-48 lead with less than a minute remaining in the game. Dallas allowed a late field goal by Cleveland kicker Jason Ball to trim the lead to 58-51, but an onside kick by the Gladiators was recovered by the Desperados and provided the edge for the Dallas win.
