One of the greatest players in Arena Football League history, Sherdrick comes to Chicago after playing his entire 14-year career with the Arizona Rattlers. He signed a two-year contract through the 2009 season on October 30, 2007... Named one of the 20 Greatest Players in AFL history (No. 8) as part of the league’s 2006 celebration of its first 20 seasons... Has led his teams to the ArenaBowl five times – 1994, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004 – winning championships in 1994 and 1997. (An injury – broken fibula and dislocated foot – prevented him from playing in the 1997 ArenaBowl)... Voted First Team All-Arena twice – 1998 and 2003 – and Second Team All-Arena three times – 1997, 2000, 2002... Enters the 2008 season ranked second in AFL history in passing touchdowns (829) and third in passing attempts (5,268), completions (3,261) and yards (40,979)... Has been named Game MVP 41 times and Offensive Player of the Game 19 times... Signed with Arizona Cardinals in the fall of 1999 ... was a member of both the team’s active roster and practice squad before being claimed by the San Diego Chargers for the final three games of the 1999 season... Signed to the Atlanta Falcons practice squad in November 1998 and was a member of the Falcons team that played Denver in Super Bowl XXXIII in Miami ... released by Atlanta during training camp in 1999... Signed a free agent contract with the Miami Dolphins in the spring of 1995 and attended off-season workouts with the team ... was released by Miami in June 1995.
2007 SEASON: Sherdrick enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career, completing 316 of 498 passes (63.5%) for a career-high 4,036 yards and 83 touchdowns, while only throwing 13 interceptions in 14 games for Arizona... Named Offensive Player of the Game for the fourth time June 3 at Las Vegas, completing 19 of 31 passes for 243 yards and 5 TDs without throwing an interception... Won his third Offensive Player of the Game award May 3 vs. Austin after completing 26 of 38 passes for 333 yards and 6 TDs... Completed 17 of 19 passes for 348 yards and 9 touchdowns and was named Offensive Player of the Game in a 83-69 win April 20 at Utah... Named Offensive Player of the Game March 23 vs. Las Vegas after completing 20 of 25 passes for 250 yards and 6 touchdowns without throwing an interception... Attempted a season high 52 passes for a season-high 361 yards in a Week 1 loss to Georgia March 3.
2006: Completed 295 of 508 passes for 3,991 yards and 83 touchdowns while playing in 15 games for Arizona... Earned his third Offensive Player of the Game award in a 75-28 win over Las Vegas May 5 ... completed 11 of 13 passes for 187 yards and 7 TDs... Voted Offensive Player of the Game for the second year in a row vs. Chicago, completing 19 of 25 passes for 195 yards and 7 TDs in a 61-42 win April 15... Named Offensive Player of the Game for his performance March 24 vs. Los Angeles ... completed 16 of 29 passes for 236 yards and 7 TDs.
2005: Was limited to 10 games due to injuries, but completed 189 of 319 passes for 2,334 yards, 51 touchdowns and 10 interceptions... Missed 6 games during the season with knee injuries – Weeks 2-4 and 9-11... Enjoyed his best game of the season and was named Offensive Player of the Game May 6 vs. Chicago, completing 22 of 25 passes for 240 yards and 8 TDs without throwing an interception in a 61-43 win ... also rushed for a score.
2004: Had another outstanding season, completing 347 of 534 passes for 3,833 yards and 77 touchdowns while playing in all 16 games for Arizona ... also rushed for a career high 9 TDs... Led the Rattlers to a third-consecutive ArenaBowl appearance, falling to San Jose in ArenaBowl XVIII... Named Offensive Player of the Game for six consecutive weeks between April 4 and May 9 including April 10 vs. Las Vegas when he completed 21 of 35 passes for 263 yards and equaled his career high with 9 TD passes in an 80-63 win.
2003: Voted First Team All-Arena after completing 288 of 430 passes for 3,692 yards and a career-high 88 touchdowns, while throwing just 7 interceptions in 14 games ... also set a career high with a passer rating of 126.5... Led the Rattlers to a second-consecutive ArenaBowl appearance, falling to Tampa Bay 43-29 in ArenaBowl XVII... Had the best statistical game of his career April 13 at Los Angeles, completing 37 of 54 passes for a 470 yards and 9 touchdowns – all career highs – in a 82-76 overtime win... Missed Weeks 2 and 3 with a shoulder injury sustained in a Week 1 loss vs. San Jose.
2002: Named Second Team All-Arena for the third time in his career after completing 270 of 439 passes for 3,219 yards, 69 touchdowns and just 9 interceptions in 14 games for Arizona... Led the Rattlers to an 11-3 regular season record and a berth in ArenaBowl XVI, before losing to San Jose in the title game.
2001: Completed 193 of 297 passes for 2,505 yards and 46 touchdowns, while throwing just 7 interceptions in 10 games for the Rattlers... Missed Weeks 2-5 with an injury suffered in a Week 1 loss at San Jose.
2000: Named Second Team All-Arena for the second time in his career after completing 277 of 473 passes for 3,454 yards, 72 touchdowns and just 7 interceptions, while playing in all 14 games for Arizona... Led Arizona to a 12-2 regular season record – and 14-3 overall mark – before losing to Orlando in the AFL semifinals... Completed 29 of 42 passes for 388 yards and 7 touchdowns May 6 vs. Nashville.
1999: Spent the regular season on Arizona’s NFL Exempt roster while with the Atlanta Falcons ... was released by Atlanta and activated by Arizona on August 11 in time for the second round of the playoffs... His only action of the season came August 14 when he completed 23 of 39 passes for 298 yards, 6 TDs and 1 Interception in a 73-47 loss to Albany in the AFL semifinals.
1998: Named First Team All-Arena for the first time in his career after guiding the Rattlers to a 10-4 record and its third-consecutive Western Division title ... completed 295 of 451 passes for 3,571 yards, 70 touchdowns and just 8 interceptions in 14 games... Won game MVP honors four times during the season.
1997: Named Second Team All-Arena after completing 241 of 400 passes for 3,331 yards and 67 touchdowns while throwing a career-low 6 interceptions in 14 games ... did not get sacked once all season. Led Arizona to a 12-2 regular season record and a Western Division title ... suffered a broken fibula and dislocated foot early in the fourth quarter of the AFL semifinals vs. Tampa Bay and was forced to miss ArenaBowl XI vs. Iowa, which Arizona won 55-33... Won game MVP honors five times during the season.
1996: Played in 14 games for Arizona, completing 286 of 462 passes for 3,690 yards and 65 touchdowns while throwing only 13 interceptions... Won game MVP honors five times during the season.
1995: Completed 54 of 90 passes for 574 yards and 11 touchdowns in 5 games after missing the start of the AFL season while with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins... Returned to the team as Aaron Garcia’s backup June 13 after missing the season’s first five games ... split time with Garcia in four games before an injury to Garcia returned Bonner to the starting role for the final regular season game and the playoffs.
1994: Earned the job as the team’s starting QB in just his second season, completing 208 of 363 passes for 2,685 yards and 46 touchdowns, while throwing just 12 interceptions in 11 games... Was named ArenaBowl MVP after completing an ArenaBowl record 25 of 38 passes for 267 yards and 3 TDs in leading the Rattlers to a 36-31 win over Orlando September 2 in ArenaBowl VIII... Made his first career start May 20 vs. Orlando, completing 22 of 37 passes for 306 yards and 3 TDs in a 38-28 loss to the Predators.
1993: Appeared in three games as a rookie, completing 2 of 5 passes for 26 yards... Made his AFL debut July 3 vs. Dallas and threw an incompletion on his only pass attempt.
COLLEGE CAREER: Sherdrick was a four-year letterwinner (1986-1990) at California State University – Northridge, completing 319 of 637 passes for 3,533 yards and 18 touchdowns in 37 career games... Named honorable mention All-Western Football Conference as a senior in 1991... Played basketball as a freshman and sophomore and ran track and played volleyball as a senior.
Personal: Sherdrick Deon Bonner was born October 19, 1968 in Los Angeles ... Sherdrick and his wife, Lindsay, live in Lakewood, CO during the off-season... Is a 1986 graduate of Azusa (CA) High School, where he participated in football, basketball, baseball and track... Was named all-conference and league MVP in football as a senior... Named all-league in basketball as a sophomore, junior and senior... Won the California Interscholastic Federation’s Southern Section high jump title as a senior with a jump of 6’10 ¾” ... went on to place third in the state in the high jump... Received a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology from California State University-Northridge in May 1991... Was a teammate of current Philadelphia Soul QB Tony Graziani with the Atlanta Falcons... Inducted into the Cal-State Northridge Athletic Hall of Fame in1998. |
