COLLEGE
Jones was a
four-year letterman (1997-2000) at South Florida,
starting 40 of 43 career games... He was the first ever NFL Draft pick in school
history, he was followed immediately by Bill Gramatica and Kawika Mitchell... One
of the strongest players in the collegiate ranks, boasting a 490-pound bench
press... Showed his athleticism by also briefly playing on the school’s
basketball team in 1999-2000 when injuries depleted the squad’s depth. 2000
(Senior): All-Independent first-team selection by The NFL Draft Report...
Manned the demanding left tackle position and provided outstanding pass
protection as the Bulls averaged 203.2 aerial yards per game in their first
season of NCAA Division 1-A competition... Led offensive line unit that allowed
only 24 quarterback sacks... Registered 91 knockdowns, while appearing in
virtually every offensive snap (726 plays)... Delivered touchdown-resulting
blocks on two scores as the Bulls exploded for 513 yards vs. Jacksonville State Closed out career in fine fashion, opening holes
for offense that set season-highs with 540 total yards and 298 rushing yards in
59-0 win over Austin
Peay State.
1999 (Junior): Played in all 11 games, starting nine at left tackle... Credited
with 71 knockdown blocks, while helping the offense generate 3,437 yards. 1998
(Sophomore): Started all 11 games at left tackle and was one of main reasons
the offense averaged 36.5 points, 217.4 yards passing and 191.5 yards rushing
per game Recorded 62 knockdowns... Selected
NCAA Division 1-AA All-Independent first-team... Registered eight knockdowns,
including one on a 75-yard touchdown, as the Bulls gained 210 aerial yards in
39-10 victory over Slippery Rock. 1997 (Freshman): Played in 10 games and
started nine at left tackle as a freshman.
