Bergeron named AFL Rookie of the Month

FLOWERY BRANCH, GA, March 3, 2005 – The Arena Football League announced today that Georgia Force Offensive Specialist Troy Bergeron was named the League’s Rookie of the Month for February.

 

In his first five AFL contests, Bergeron, the AFL’s youngest player at 21, ranks second among AFL scorers with 90 points. He has collected a League-leading 43 receptions for 532 yards (3rd in the AFL) and 15 touchdowns (2nd in the AFL), recording three touchdown catches in each game this season and helping the Force (4-1) into a four-way tie for the top record in the AFL.

 

Bergeron is third among League leaders in all-purpose yards (914) and has returned 20 kickoffs for 382 yards. He is on pace to set a new AFL single-season record for most receiving touchdowns with 48 (record is 46, held by four players), as well as the same record by a rookie (42, held by Eddie Brown, Albany- 1994).

 

This marks the first time that Bergeron has earned an AFL award and the first monthly honor for a Force player since Cliff Green was awarded AFL Defensive Player of the Month in June 2002.
