NEW YORK – Chicago Rush WR Bobby Sippio, Philadelphia Soul DB Eddie Moten, and Colorado Crush FB/LB Robert Thomas have been named Offensive Player, ADT Defensive Player, and Ironman of the Week, respectively, for Week 5 of the 2007 season.
OFFENSIVE: Sippio (6-3, 220, Western Kentucky) set franchise records in both receptions (14) and yards (224) while scoring five touchdowns as he led the Rush to a decisive, 66-31, victory over the Los Angeles Avengers on Sunday. One of Sippio’s touchdowns came at the end of the first half, on an untimed down due to a Los Angeles penalty on an Avengers missed field goal attempt by K Remy Hamilton. On the next play with no time left on the clock, Sippio caught a pass from Rush QB Matt D’Orazio at the 25 yard line and out-raced all Avengers defenders to the end zone for a 40-yard touchdown reception to take a 42-10 lead into the locker room at halftime. Sippio has scored five touchdowns in three of his five games this season. He accounted for 13 of the Rush’s 25 total first downs, and his 224 receiving-yard performance is the League’s second-best of the season.
ADT DEFENSIVE: Moten, (5-10, 185, Texas A&M- Kingsville) registered 9.0 tackles and one interception that he returned 50 yards for a touchdown in the Soul’s 65-60 victory over the New York Dragons on Sunday. Moten’s interception came on the Dragons first series of the second quarter with Philadelphia leading 27-14, and New York threatening from the Soul one-yard line. On third and goal, Moten intercepted a Davey pass and returned it for the longest interception return of the season. He is the only player in the AFL who has returned two interceptions for touchdowns this year. This is Moten’s second ADT Defensive Player of the Week award this year, the first coming in Week 2.
IRONMAN: Thomas, (6-3, 251, Henderson St.) blocked a 30-yard field goal attempt with 48 seconds remaining in the game that would have put the Nashville Kats up by 10 points. After Colorado tied the game at 48-48, Thomas scored his second rushing touchdown of the game with six seconds left to give the Colorado Crush a 55-48 victory over the Kats on Sunday. On defense, Thomas, who was also Ironman of the Week in Week 3, recorded two tackles and one pass defensed for the Crush.
