Jarrett Hicks, who formed a dynamic combination with Avenger quarterback Sonny Cumbie during their collegiate careers, is in his first season with Los Angeles. He signed a three-year deal with the Avengers on Jan. 29, 2008.
COLLEGE: Hicks played in 42 games during his four-year career at Texas Tech University (Lubbock, Texas), catching 198 passes for 2,859 yards and 30 touchdowns. As a sophomore in 2004, his quarterback was Sonny Cumbie. During that season, Hicks had a career-high 76 receptions for 1,177 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns, earning All-Big 12 first-team honors. In a 45-31 victory over California in the 2004 Holiday Bowl, he caught two touchdowns passes from Cumbie and tied a career-high with nine receptions. Hicks also was selected to the All-Big 12 first-team as a junior in 2005, after catching 65 passes for 850 yards and 10 scores.
HIGH SCHOOL: While attending Sharpstown High School (Houston, Texas), Hicks was a member of the football and track & field teams. In football, he earned All-Midlands Region recognition from SuperPrep. On the track, Hicks clocked a 47.9 in the 400-meters and a 22.1 in the 200-meters.
PERSONAL: Born in Houston, Texas ... father, Jim, played Major League Baseball for five seasons, including a stint with the California Angels (1969-70) ... brother, Broderick, played basketball at Wake Forest University. |
