NEW YORK – New York Dragons QB AARON GARCIA, New Orleans VooDoo DB NORMAN LEJEUNE, Tampa Bay Storm FB/LB TORRANCE MARSHALL and San Jose SaberCats K A.J. HAGLUND have been named Offensive Player, ADT Defensive Player and Rookie, Ironman and Kicker of the Month, respectively, for the month of April.

 

OFFENSIVE: Garcia (6-1, 195, Sacramento St.) led all AFL quarterbacks in touchdowns (29) and posted the second-highest passer rating (125.1) to lead the New York Dragons (5-4) to a perfect 4-0 record during the month of April. Garcia ranked fourth in completions (101) and completion percentage (68.2) while leading New York on its first four-game winning streak since 2006. His best performance of the month came in Week 8 as Garcia completed 22-of-26 passes for 254 yards and seven touchdowns as the Dragons defeated the Tampa Bay Storm (3-5), 66-47, at St. Pete Times Forum. New York has a bye in Week 10 but travels to STAPLES Center to face the Los Angeles Avengers (3-6) on Saturday, May 10 at 10:30 p.m. ET (MSG Plus – Live, FSN Prime Ticket – Delay, at 10:30 p.m. PT, SIRIUS Radio – Channel 130).

 

ADT DEFENSIVE/ROOKIE:  LeJeune (6-0, 207 Louisiana St.) led the AFL in interceptions (5) and interception return yards (84), while tying the AFL rookie and League record for most interceptions returned for touchdowns in a single-season with three during the month of April as the VooDoo (7-2) posted a 3-1 record. LeJeune also notched 16.5 tackles and one sack and was the only player to register an interception in each game during the month. His best performance of the month came in Week 9 as he recorded seven tackles, one forced fumble, one interception, one sack and one pass defense as the VooDoo defeated the Utah Blaze (0-9), 70-56, on Friday. New Orleans travels to The Arena at Gwinnett Center to face Mitsubishi Motors Southern Division rival Georgia (3-5) on Saturday, May 3 at 7 p.m. ET (AFL NET, Cox Sports TV Local – Live, CSS – Live).  

 

IRONMAN: Marshall (6-3, 260, Oklahoma) recorded three touchdowns on offense along with nine tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss on defense in four games as the Tampa Bay Storm (3-5) posted a 1-4 record during the month of April. His best performance came during the Storm’s 48-41 victory in the “War on I-4” over Mitsubishi Motors Southern Division rival the Orlando Predators (6-3). Marshall registered 24 rushing yards along with 26 receiving yards and two touchdowns along with two-and-a-half tackles on defense as the Storm held the Predators to a season-low 41 points. Tampa Bay hosts the Chicago Rush (7-2) on Russell Athletic ESPN Arena Football Monday, May 5 at 8 p.m. ET (ESPN2 HD, ESPN360.com).

 

KICKER: Haglund (5-8, 175, Central Oklahoma) connected on 24-of-29 PATs and converted a League-best 7-of-8 field goal attempts for a League leading 45 points (kickers) during the month of April as San Jose posted a 2-2 record. Haglund’s best performance came in Week 8 against Los Angeles as he converted two field goals (2-of-2) and seven PATs (7-of-8) during San Jose’s 70-42 victory. San Jose (5-4) travels to Amway Arena to face the Orlando Predators (6-3) on Saturday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. ET (NBC Local – Live).

 

Offensive Player of the Month candidates included: Cleveland QB Raymond Philyaw, FB/LB Marlion Jackson and WR Otis Amey, Kansas City WR Jerel Myers and FB/LB Dawan Moss, Los Angeles QB Tim Hicks, New Orleans QB Danny Wimprine and WR James Jordan, New York WR Jason Willis, Philadelphia QB Matt D’Orazio and WR Chris Jackson, and Utah WR J.J. McKelvey. 

 

ADT Defensive Player of the Month candidates included: Chicago DB Jeremy Unertl, Colorado DB Rashad Floyd, Kansas City DB Jerald Brown, New York DB John Walker and DL Henry Taylor, San Jose DL Alan Harper and LB Steve Watson.

 

Ironman of the Month candidates included: Chicago WR/LB DeJuan Alfonzo, Columbus FB/LB Harold Wells, Los Angeles WR/DB Kevin Ingram, Orlando FB/LB Marlon Moye-Moore, Philadelphia DB Mike Brown and Tampa Bay WR/LB Lawrence Samuels.

 

Rookie of the Month candidates included: Chicago WR Donovan Morgan, Georgia WR Tiger Jones, Grand Rapids LB Michael McFadden, Los Angeles WR J.R. Tolver, Orlando WR Chas Gessner and DB Jason Perry and Philadelphia FB/LB Clifton Smith.

 

Kicker of the Month candidates included: Cleveland’s Jason Ball, New York’s Chris Onorato, Grand Rapids Brian Gowins and Utah’s Steve Azar.
