AFL extends Commissioner Jerry Kurz' contract for 2011 season

Commissioner Jerry B. Kurz will be heading the Arena Football League in 2011 following an extension of his contract, the league announced today. It will be Kurz’ second year as AFL commissioner and 25th with the Arena Football Family.

Philadelphia Soul assigned Mike Hohensee as Head Coach

The Philadelphia Soul today announced that they have been assigned Arena Football League coaching legend Mike Hohensee as the head coach in 2011 by the League Office. Per team and league policy, terms were not disclosed.

AFL MOVES TO 18-GAME REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE FOR 2011

The 2011 Arena Football League regular season has been extended from 16 games to 18, Commissioner Jerry Kurz announced today. The league will consist of 19 teams and each will play 18 regular season games, with the option of two preseason games (one home and one away). The change was passed in an ownership vote last week during the league’s Board of Directors meeting in Phoenix, AZ.

SPOKANE SHOCK DEFEATS TAMPA BAY STORM IN ARENABOWL XXIII, 69-57

The game of the season lived up to the hype as the Spokane Shock defeated the Tampa Bay Storm in ArenaBowl XXIII, 69-57. The Storm and the Shock went into the ArenaBowl with similar regular season statistics, but the Shock proved to be the offensive powerhouse in the first matchup of the two franchises in league history.
